Comments on: INTERACADEMY COUNCIL REPORT RECOMMENDS FUNDAMENTAL REFORM OF IPCC MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE http://www.climateshifts.org/?p=5802 Science, climate change, coral reefs and the environment Mon, 31 Mar 2014 21:57:00 +0000 hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.8.25 By: OveHG http://www.climateshifts.org/?p=5802#comment-1190 Wed, 15 Sep 2010 05:12:16 +0000 http://www.climateshifts.org/?p=5802#comment-1190 It is totally frustrating given that much of this questioning is not sincere but rather driven by a desire to harass scientists and other climate change experts. You only have to look at the torment that these same people put Phil Jones or Rayendra Pachauri through (story here). Stephen essentially gave part of himself to listening and trying to answer these questions despite this. He will be remembered as a hero of our times.

Naturally, if you want to get everyone to agree, you get the middle ground only. New information available to relevant experts will not been seen by the broader expert community (almost the definition of new information) and will be left out as ‘uncertain’. This is despite the fact that new information is largely arising from the best people to judge its veracity. Hence the failure to predict sea ice trends and beyond. The trouble is, the IPCC is doing its best but is under the shackles of having to find a broad consensus.

The Summary for Policy Makers is unreadable except by the most dedicated jurno with good salary and few deadlines…

Secondly public statements by IPCC are so qualified with caveats to require telepathy to parse the real meanings.

Finally compared to my reading of the latest science the IPCC is woefully out of date and conservative to a fault.

In my view much of the criticism of the IPCC is misdirected.

Hearing the same ol same ol questions, plants love Co2, Humans only produce 3%, greenland was gree, roman times were warm, grapes in the UK…sheeesh.

David Karoly braved the online questions afterwards. Live chat transcript.

Forehead slapping stuff. But one of the best analogies Ive seen yet on why Co2 is an issue, where he invokes the image of a bathtub with equal amounts of water going in & out. The adding 3% to the intake, but none to the outlet.

You tube video on Stephen Schneider on the skeptics.

On an unrelated issue. Did anyone see Bjorn Lomborg come to the other side?

“IPCC reports that global warming is human driven remain unchalenged, althought some revision of report writing processes is recommended.”

Can’t we just stick to the fundamental message here!

Sorry, I’m just a bit tired of the poor reflection of the true science in the media (even spills over onto the ABC).
