A fairly convoluted (but interesting none the less) paper just got published in PNAS by Anderegg et al (2010) looking at climate change and scientific credibility (more coverage by the Guardian here). Why don’t we trust climate scientists? To answer this question, the authors conducted a literature search of 1,372 climate researchers [...]
Here’s a pretty interesting and honest spin by the BBC on the Heartland Institute “4th International Conference on Climate Change” (read: a bunch of industry funded anti-science shills gathering to obfuscate climate science and hide the decline):
“At the world’s biggest gathering of climate change sceptics, organised by the right-wing Heartland [...]
This article (surprisingly enough from the usually right-leaning Times newspaper) is striking in it’s honesty. I’m not condoning Jones’s actions regarding the FOI, but given the following response, it’s understandable (back of the envelope calculations: 60 FOI requests in a single month, at 18hrs per request is 1080hrs, or 27 weeks [...]
Given how obvious the evidence for continued global warming is, how can so many people insist the earth is cooling? Even some scientists are making this argument (which just proves you don’t need to be all that smart to be a scientist).

Whilst McIntyre discusses his interpretation of the Yamal dataset, the rest of the denial blogosphere is busy jumping up and down about how the ‘hockey stick is dead‘, AGW has been falsified, and the how leading UK climate scientists should resign (whilst in the real world,

HAS global warming stopped? The question alone is enough to provoke scorn from the mainstream scientific community and from the Government, which says the earth has never been hotter. But tell that to a new army of sceptics who have mushroomed on internet blog sites and elsewhere in recent months to [...]
Dr Pete Ridd has responded to my latest response to his comments. Given that he raises a few issues of fact, I think it is useful to explore his conjectures point by point in a final post. Some of these conjectures are easily dispelled which I think will be useful to the wider audience. I [...]
